The McNeese Cowgirls are looking to win 40+ games for the fourth consecutive year after a disappointing exit from the Southland Conference Tournament. 2025 is a year that James Landreneau is looking to get his squad back into the NCAA Tournament.

Head Coach: James Landreneau (13th Year)

2024 Record: 40-20 (22-2 SLC)

2024 Postseason Result: None

2025 Preseason Ranking: 2nd in Southland

DIBS ON TOP

Alexis Dibbley led the Cowgirls in batting average last season with a .351 clip. She’s back in 2025 to lead a new-look McNeese lineup without two key players in Corine Poncho and Crislyne Moreno. New faces including Arkansas transfer Nyjah Fontenot will look to have key roles early on.

NEW ACE

Ryann Schexnayder had a strong season as the second option in 2024, winning 9 games in 27 total appearances. Without Shaelyn Sanders as the leader, it will be up to the Walker High product to command the circle at Cowgirl Diamond to keep up the standard of strong pitching in Lake Charles.

CAN THE COWGIRLS RISE TO THE TOP

The Southland has a good history of softball success with Nicholls, Southeastern, Lamar, and many others having championship pedigree. However, the Southland has largely run through Lake Charles. Seven of the last 11 regular season titles reside with McNeese and this season should be no different. Can Landreneau and his team continue that level of success in 2025?

The McNeese Cowgirls open their season on Thursday, February 6th in the Tarleton State Texan Classic when they play Tarleton State at 5:00 PM at Tiger Park.
