A pair of Southern Jaguars have earned Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
Southern defensive lineman Jordan Lewis and kicker Cesar Barajas were selected as the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week and Specialist of the Week. Alabama State’s Ryan Nettles was named the Offensive Player of the Week.
Lewis had a career game in Southern’s 24-21 victory over Alabama State last week. Lewis recorded a career-high 11 tackles highlighted by eight solo stops and four sacks against the Hornets. Lewis forced a fumble at the 14-yard line that was later recovered by Southern setting up first and goal.
Barajas meanwhile made a game-winning 41-yard field goal during the Jaguars 24-21 victory over Alabama State. Barajas was one-for-one in field goals during the game, and was perfect 3-of-3 in extra point attempts against the Hornets.
