The Eunice Bobcats kicked off the season with a 16-14 victory over Northwest.
Northwest (0-1) struck first in the first quarter with a 58-yard touchdown run by Kevon Johnson. The extra point by Gavin Fontenot was good.
Eunice (1-0) responded with a one-yard touchdown run by Montana Brown. He also successfully ran in the two-point conversion to give the Bobcats an 8-7 lead.
With 6:44 left in the third quarter, Eunice extended its lead with a one-yard run by Brown. Brown also made the two-point run to give the Bobcats a 16-7 lead.
Northwest climbed back into the game with a two-yard run by Johnson early in the fourth quarter. The extra point by Fontenot was good and that cut the lead down to two points.
Eunice was also to hold on for the victory. Brown was selected as the St. Landry Parish Game of the Week MVP with two rushing touchdowns and two successful two-point conversions.
This week’s game, with Jason Burns and Chad Jones on the call, will be the Beau Chene Gators traveling to take on the Port Barre Red Devils. Pregame begins at 6:45 and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
