The New Orleans Pelicans have their new head coach.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnaroski and Andrew Lopez, Stan Van Gundy has agreed on a multiyear deal to become the next Pelicans head coach.
The deal will be for four years, according to The Athletic’s Sham Charania.
New Orleans dismissed previous head coach Alvin Gentry after the Pelicans 2019-20 season ended.
Van Gundy is 523-384 overall in the regular season as a head coach. He is 48-43 in the postseason and led the Magic to the NBA Finals in 2009.
He also coached the Miami Heat from 2003 to 2005 and his latest head coaching stint was with the Detroit Pistons from 2014 to 2018.
