SEC Media Days kicked off Monday in Atlanta at the College Football Hall of Fame in a familiar way: Greg Sankey gave his annual “State of the SEC” address. For Sankey, 2022 Media Days are a special one.

“We should never take for granted that we’re able to gather together after what we’ve experienced the last two years,” said Sankey. “We want to make sure this is a valuable time.”

The commissioner then spent time talking about the significance of the city of Atlanta to the Southeastern Conference. The first annual meeting was here in 1933 and the SEC Football Championship game has been played in “A-Town” yearly since 1994.

This year is filled with a lot of buzz, as this year’s media days is the first one back in Atlanta since 2018. Throw in the fact that Texas and Oklahoma are soon to come into the fold.

“In July we as a conference issued membership invitations, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Texas, to join the Southeastern Conference effective July 1st, 2025” Commissioner Sankey said.

College football has been an ever-changing landscape since that announcement last year. Now, four schools from the American have gone to the Big 12 to replace the Sooners and Longhorns, as well as the massive news recently of USC and UCLA joining the Big 10.

Sankey feels that the SEC is stronger now than it’s ever been.

“In this environment, I’m proud to say in my view, I think in the view of our entire membership, the Southeastern Conference is stronger now than at any other time in our history,” said Sankey. “We’re poised to grow to 16 members on July 1st, 2025. This expansion keeps the SEC in contiguous states which supports reasonable geography among like-minded universities and keeps us confident that fan interest will continue to grow in our communities, in our region, in this country and literally across the globe.”

SEC Media Days will continue throughout the week and The Game will have you covered as Matt and RP3 will be bringing you the best sports coverage in Southwest Louisiana thanks to Bordelon Furniture.
