The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (6-8) offense seemed to be sleepwalking for much of Saturday’s contest. In fact, they were only able to get two hits on the afternoon against South Alabama (8-7) and fell to the Jaguars 7-3 to even up the series.
South Alabama got on the board in the fourth inning after Carter Perkins hit a sac bunt to score Brendan Donovan. The Jags offense really came alive though when Wells Davis blasted one out to right field for three runs to make it 5-0.
The Cajuns were able to mount a two-out rally though in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run inning highlighted by a two-run single due to a fielding error by Travis Swaggerty to cut the deficit down to two runs. That was all they could manage though as Kennon Fontenot was thrown out by Austin Gossman to end the inning.
Swaggerty made up for the error with a laser out to right center field to put the game out of reach.
Jack Burk dropped to 1-3 on the season allowing five runs off of six hits, walked three, and struck out four in four and two-thirds of an inning of work.
The Cajuns will look to take the rubber match tomorrow with first pitch set for 1 pm.
