Acadiana has been a powerhouse in Louisiana Class 5A football for the last 20 years. Since 2005, the Rams have appeared in eight state championship games, winning six. When you reach the highest stage almost every other year, bowing out in the second round doesn’t sit well.
Matt McCullough and his staff have spent the offseason preparing his young team to make a run at their seventh state title in District 3-5A, but the road won’t be an easy one.
IMPACT PLAYERS:
Caden Dibetta QB, 6’2″ 195 lbs, Jr
Diabetta started at quarterback last season and struggled at points, but mostly showed that he was capable as a young player and that the future was bright. He is a dual-threat guy that can beat you both ways if you let him.
Russell Babineaux WR, 5’9″ 175 lbs, Jr
Babineaux is a playmaking nightmare for opposing defenses. He possesses great hands, insane speed and is being recruited by LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida State, and many others.
Ezekiel Hypolite RB, 5’10” 175 lbs, Sr
Hypolite is a combo back that reminds me a lot of guys like Ezekiel Elliot and Elijah Mitchell. He has a bruising ability at first to separate and then pulls away in the second level with his breakout speed. He will be a special weapon for the veer machine this season.
HEAD COACH: Matt McCullough
McCullough stepped in as head coach in 2018, replacing the legendary Ted Davidson. Since then, the Rams have won two state titles as he has continued what Acadiana has done for years: run the veer offense better than anyone else. After a disappointing season in 2023, I expect Acadiana to be much improved in 2023.
