ARNAUDVILLE — The Beau Chene Gators will be looking to get back on track.
After making the playoffs in 2021, Beau Chene suffered through a disappointing 1-9 season in 2022. With so many senior returning starters, there seems to be more focus and urgency heading into the upcoming season.
To turn things around, Gators head coach Marcques Lewis has been placing the focus this offseason on improving the team’s defense which struggled against the run as the team gave up an average of 46.8 points per game.
Beau Chene will have the majority of its experience back on that side of the football, in particular in the secondary, but will have a lot of new faces on offense — a unit that averaged 10 points per game last season.
If the defense can improve and carry the team early while playmakers develop on offense, Beau Chene could get back to being a playoff team.
IMPACT PLAYERS
TYLON MAJOR, DB, Sr.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound senior is one of the Gators’ best athletes and most versatile players. Major can play in coverage at cornerback or play in the box as a run-stopping safety.
DAVONTE CHARLOT-GOINS, RB, Sr.
The Gator’s offense will run through the 5-foot-9, 185-pound running back. Charlot-Goins has good speed but also can power his way to first downs.
NATE ORTEGO, RT, Sr.
A three-year starter along the offensive line, the 5-foot-10, 240-pound Ortego will key instrumental in the Gators’ power running game.
Head Coach: Marcques Lewis
Lewis enters his third season at the helm of the Beau Chene Gators and is looking to guide the program back to the playoffs, which he did in his first season in 2021. The former Carencro High assistant, with a background on the defensive side of the football, has challenged his senior-laden defense to improve this offseason.
