EUNICE – The Eunice High Bobcats enter 2023 looking to take another step forward. The Bobcats have been a consistent playoff team but have not had any deep runs since their state title in 2018. Last year’s team went 6-5, but did go 4-1 in district play. Additionally, they pushed Erath to the wire in that playoff appearance, and showed some of their potential. An experienced team could make even more noise in 2023 for Coach Vige, but they will rely on the running game to set things up offensively. If it all comes together, Eunice could be a team to watch this season.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Caleb Arceneaux, G, Sr
Arceneaux is a converted tight end who is now working as an offensive lineman. Coach Vige says that he is the best lineman on the entire team, and that group will need him to play well. He also played a little defense last year, totaling 16 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one and a half sacks. The Bobcat running game will look to Arceneaux to open holes often this season.
Lathan Kennedy, SS, Sr
Kennedy is the leader of this defense and has been a staple on that side of the ball for a while now. He is now a third year starter, who tallied 104 tackles, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries a year ago. Those numbers helped Lathan earn 2nd team all-district honors and have him primed to lead the Bobcat defense.
Isaiah Thomas, RB, LB, Sr
Thomas is a player who has contributed on both sides of the ball throughout his career at Eunice. A three-year starter at running back, Thomas has also contributed at linebacker. He contributed with 70 tackles and an interception on defense. He also has over 400 career rushing yards and will look to have an increased role on that side of the ball here in 2023.
Head Coach: Andrew Vige
Vige is entering his fourth season at the helm of the Eunice Bobcats. Under his leadership, the Bobcats have made three straight playoff appearances and are looking to improve and advance further. A big step would be hosting a playoff game, as last year’s team lost a heartbreaker on the road against Erath in the first round.
