The Fave 5: A Cuppa Winners

5. Von Bell & PJ Williams

In the absence of leader Kenny Wayne Vaccaro and the loss of rookie superstar Marshon Lattimore, the Saints needed defensive backs to take on that “next man up” mentality and deliver and they did. Bell and Williams combined for 21 tackles, Bell had a crucial sack, and while they were not flawless, these two along with backups Rafael Bush and De’Vante Harris played well enough to win when the Saints were severely handicapped against Washington.

4. Fleener & Ginn

If you were to place bets on which offensive players would screw up the opportunity the Saints had at the end of the 4th quarter against Washington, those players would be Ted Ginn Jr. and Coby Fleener. These two guys have reputations as pass catchers who drop passes; head cases who are inconsistent. On the final two game defining drives of regulation however, both Fleener and Ginn got out of their own way and just played football. Fleener’s 5 catches for 91 yards all came at the end of the regulation. Talk about clutch! And Ginn’s 6 catches kept drives alive and Brees in rhythm as the Saints stormed back into the game. Neither guy had a drop. All targets were caught. Reputations be damned.

3. Ingram & Kamara

The Saints have the NFL’s best duo at running back and it is not even close right now. Ingram’s intensity and Kamara’s playmaking ability have been utilized mostly to destroy teams. Against Washington, both players proved they can come through in a pinch as well. Kamara’s game tying touchdown and two point scamper, plus Mark Ingram’s overtime dominance served the league notice. Good luck trying to keep these two down for four whole quarters.

2. Brees & Payton

The Saints have won 8 in a row, they just had their greatest 4th quarter comeback in team history, and they are being called Super Bowl contenders as November winds down. This is all because of a great offensive line/run game and an exponentially improved defense; but the two men who are leading the way are the same two who put Saints football on the map. Payton and Brees buying into the Saints’ youth movement is the reason behidn all of the success that nobody is talking about.

1. Coach O & the Rain

Ed Orgeron coaching a football game in a monsoon is what no team should have to go up against. If it rained everyday in Louisiana, LSU would be undefeated forever and 100 years.
