5. Frank Martin
South Carolina has DELETED the most hated team in college hoops from the tournament to the elation of us all. Not only did the Gamecocks upset Duke because of the great tactics head coach Frank Martin uses on the court, but also because of his proven motivational techniques; like telling your team to perform with as much passion as Mr. Worldwide Pitbull performs with on stage. Using Mr. 305 as a symbol of excellence for his players, Frank Martin has gotten South Carolina to the Sweet Sixteen and to that all I have to say is…..dale Frank! Dale!
4. Chalk
Three 1’s, two 2’s, and three 3’s remain in the NCAA tournament. While we nibbled on some upsets in the first two rounds, this NCAA Tournament still has plenty of big dogs we are all too familiar with. With Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA, and North Carolina ll still alive, those of us too scared to ride a pumpkin carriage to the final four are looking good after one weekend of “the madness.”
3. Sweep City
LSU began SEC Baseball play with a clean sweep of the Georgia Bulldogs over the weekend and they showed that they are a team that can be as nasty as they wanna be. 22 runs on Friday, Poche gave up a run finally but got another win on Saturday, and yesterday’s clutch defensive play by Josh Smith were all highlights of a nice start to conference play.
2. Marc “Bonecrusher” Diakiese
In a weekend full of knockouts, nothing was as spectacular as Marc “Bonecrusher” Diakiese’s standing knockout of Finnish fighter Teemu Packalen. When I say “standing” I mean Packalen was standing on his feet while unconscious for 2 or 3 seconds before his body tumbled to the canvas. Diakiese’s right hand was so quick it took a minute for Packalen’s body to respond to his lights going out so suddenly.
1. GGG
When Michael Buffer uttered the words “and still” on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, the boxing world was somewhat shocked that Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin retained his belt after a 12 round war with Daniel Jacobs. Jacobs was more active and the announcers led you to believe he was about to become the new world champion. They were wrong. To be the champ, you have to beat the champ. Pitter patter does not win you gold in this sport.
