Every Friday on the Jordy Hultberg Show, our daily segment called Hot Topics transitions to the Friday Five to break down some of the biggest topics headed into the weekend. So be sure to check out the latest Friday Five right here!
CD: Big news coming out of Alan Faneca, Kevin Mawae, and Johnny Robinson named Pro Football Hall of Fame Finalists. Do any of the three former Tigers get into the hall this year?
Jordy Hultberg: I think they do. I think Johnny Robinson does, which is way overdue. I also think Alan Faneca gets in and Kevin Mawae will have to wait until next year at least.
CD: We talked about the Mountaineers yesterday Jordy and the fact that Dana Holgerson is headed to Houston. They’ve wasted little time getting a new HC in Troy’s Neal Brown. Did they win the coaching carousel with a guy that brought Troy to new heights?
JH: Coach Napier and all the other Sun Belt coaches are dancing in the streets right now. I like what he’s brought to the table, but it’s a roll of the dice and I think he deserves the new gig. Now, we’ll see if he can recruit in the Big 12 because it’s a different beast.
CD: The AP All-Pro teams were announced today and Patrick Mahomes was named the 1st team QB receiving 48 of the 50 votes. Does this pretty much seal away the fact that he’ll win the MVP in his second season?
JH: I kinda think it is, but I think Drew Brees will say “OK, let’s meet up in the Super Bowl. You can have the MVP and just give me another Lombardi Trophy and I’ll be very happy.”
CD: Sticking with the All-Pro first team, only Michael Thomas was named to the list. No love for the best team in the NFL this season?
JH: If I’m Sean Payton I’m using this as a motivational tool. Now it’s all about the team reward rather than the individual reward and hopefully that will incentivize the players.
CD: Big news out of college football transfers to close things out and that’s former Georgia QB Justin Fields heading to THE Ohio State. Can the former five-star recruit keep the Buckeyes in CFP contention right out the gate?
JH: Probably so. I can’t imagine him not doing so, he’s a five-star for a reason. I don’t blame the kid for leaving.
