The LSU Tigers stayed unbeaten thanks to the return of the Mad Hatter under the lights of Tiger Stadium, beating Florida 35-28.
The Florida Gators capitalized on a muffed punt by Tre’Davious White with a short pass from Treon Harris to Jake McGee to go up 7-0.
The Tigers finally got on the board early in the second quarter with a direct snap to Fournette that he walked in to knot things up at seven apiece.
After forcing a three-and-out, the Tigers took over and took the lead off of a short pass from Brandon Harris to Malachi Dupre.
LSU’s defense shut down Florida once again and scored on a two-play drive. The first play was a flea flicker from Harris to Dupre and was followed up with a quick six yard run to put the Tigers up by two scores.
But Florida wasn’t about to go into the locker room without cutting away at the lead. And the Gators did just that with Harris connecting again with McGee for another score.
The Tigers responded with a 50-yard bomb on 3rd & 9 from Harris to Malachi Dupre for the score to gain a two score lead heading into the first half.
Florida came roaring back in the second half by forcing LSU to punt on the Tigers opening drive and the Gators marched down the field and capped it off with a two-yard run by Kelvin Taylor to cut away at LSU’s lead.
The Gators tied it up when Antonio Callaway took it to the house on a 72-yard punt return.
The score stayed tied until early in the fourth quarter when LSU had the ball at the Florida 16 and the Mad Hatter made his return going for a fake field goal and Trent Domingue ran it in for the score and the lead.
LSU (6-0, 4-0 SEC) will stay at home and take on Western Kentucky (6-1, 4-0 CUSA) with kickoff set for 6 pm.
