Most people are familiar with the phrase, “Once in a blue moon,” but it’s more than just a saying there is some truth to it.
A blue moon is a rare event. The super moon is also a rare occurrence. When they combined, it is the rarest of lunar events.
This Wednesday, August 30, and Thursday, August 31 spectators will see an extremely rare Super Blue Moon. A super moon appears when the moon is full and at its nearest point to Earth. At that point, it appears 14% larger & 30 % brighter than its furthest point. This will be the 2nd Super Moon this month. A blue Moon is the result of a four-full moon season, instead of the usual three.
There won’t be another Super Blue Moon until 2037.
