Saturday was moving day at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, and the winds decided to pick up and make things interesting.
The day began with a few players taking advantage of morning tee times to makeup plenty of ground on the leaders. Corey Connors and Danny Walker both shot -6 66, with Connors getting to -10 and Walker to -8 for the tournament.
The co-leaders Akshay Bhatia and Min Woo Lee both teed off at -11. However, it was not the day that either had envisioned. Lee struggled mightily, shooting +6 to fall all the way to -5 for the tournament. Bhatia fared a little better, but still shot +3 falling out of the lead to -8 overall.
Bud Cauley made quite a move towards the top of the leaderboard. He shot -6, vaulting all the way to -11 for the tournament and putting him just one shot off the lead.
That lead, however, belonged to JJ Spaun. Spaun was steady, shooting -2 and moving his tournament score to -12. That was enough to give him the solo lead heading into the final round of the tournament.
Also of note, Rory McIlroy finished the day +1 and -8 overall, putting him tied for sixth. Scottie Scheffler, the two-time defending champ, finished the day even and sits at -5 for the tournament, now tied for 16th.
