A couple of days ago, I wrote about what game for LSU is their must win (which you can check out here). Selecting a must-win was pretty simple, but the trap game for this team was a little more difficult. The LSU Tigers trap game is Mississippi State.
Picking the Bulldogs to be LSU’s trap game is looking at recent matchups between the two teams. In the last two seasons, the Tigers have had nail biters that were decided by a total of 7 points. But those were two years that saw Dak Prescott making all the plays under center. LSU will be thankful that they won’t have to deal with a QB that gave them problems the last two seasons defensively.
Another big reason why this could be a trap game is because of the fact that it’s the third week of the season. Last year it was the Tigers first game of the season after the original season opener against McNeese State was cancelled. LSU needs to be able to keep the ball rolling after having an easy opponent in Jacksonville State.
The final reason is that this is the first game against a conference opponent. The Tigers are poised for success and a possible trip to Atlanta in 2016, and a win against an SEC opponent early in the year can only help their case. The Bulldogs from Starkville are nowhere near the same team that has taken the Tigers to the limit the last two years, but that doesn’t mean that they can overlook them.
