Winners of their last four after dropping two straight, the LSU Tigers women’s basketball team returned to the PMAC tonight to take on Auburn, a team that handed them their first SEC loss on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After falling behind 6-2 early, LSU went on a 10-0 run to take a 12-6 at the halfway point of the first quarter. Shortly after, Auburn went on an 11-2 run of their own to take control of the game before the Bayou Bengals ended the quarter with five straight, including a buzzer-beater from Hailey Van Lith. After one quarter of play, Flaujae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow, and Angel Reese each led the Tigers with 4 points. Honesty Scott-Grayson led Auburn with 11.
LSU started the second quarter going back and forth with Auburn as the score was 28-25 in favor of Auburn with 5:21 left. However, the Bayou Bengals went on a 15-2 run to end the half and hold a 40-30 lead, capped off by a Flau’jae Johnson buzzer-beater. Reese led LSU with 11 while Scott-Grayson continued to pace Auburn with 17.
In the second half, LSU and Auburn went back and forth with one another before Kim Mulkey’s squad went cold shooting as they were held scoreless for 2:54 leading up to the media timeout with 4:58 left in the third. LSU held a 48-42 lead at this point.
LSU finished the third quarter outscoring Auburn 10-7 in a closely contested game. Heading into the fourth, LSU led 58-49 behind 21 and 12 from Angel Reese.
At the final media timeout of the game, LSU had a 64-56 lead over Auburn behind 25 points and 16 rebounds from Angel Reese.
It was a very sloppy end with low scoring and a lot of turnovers between both teams, but LSU was able to hang on to win 71-66.

LSU outrebounded Auburn 42-28 tonight inside the PMAC during an overall sloppy contest that included 38 turnovers between both teams.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Angel Reese/Honesty Scott-Grayson
Reese carried LSU tonight with 25 points and 20 rebounds on 8-13 shooting and 9-11 at the free throw line. Scott-Grayson was the catalyst for Auburn tonight as well with 28 points on 10-23 shooting including 5-8 from downtown.
