The LSU Tigers men’s basketball team fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers 74-63 on Friday afternoon. The game was part of the Mountain Division of the Greenbrier Tip-Off event and was held in Colonial Hall in West Virginia. It is the first loss of the season for the Tigers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The battle of two unbeaten tams began with the teams trading buckets. Pitt was able to stretch out an early lead out to 12-6, but then LSU cut back into the lead. It did get to eight at several points in the first half, but the Tigers found a way back into it each time.
Towards the end of the half, LSU found themselves down 25-20. They put together an 8-2 run to end the half and took a 28-27 lead into the break. No Tigers were in double figures at the half but eight different players contributed to the scoring.
The Panthers made some adjustments at the half and it led to a quick start in the second. They put together a 13-0 run through the first media break that gave them a 40-28 lead.
That lead would keep Pitt out front for the majority of the second half. Right around six minutes to play, Vyctorius Miller converted a four-point play to cut the lead down to four at 56-52. That was as close as the Tigers would get.
Pitt was excellent at the free throw line down the stretch, allowing them to put the game away. They held on to win 74-63.
BIG NUMBER: 86
The Panthers shot 86% from the free throw line. That allowed them to stay ahead throughout the latter portions of the second half.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jaland Lowe
Lowe led the way for the Panthers, scoring 22 points. He made 4-7 from beyond the arc, helping Pitt remain unbeaten.
