The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 79-63 on Thursday night inside the PMAC. This was the pink game in honor of cancer awareness.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU came out and was able to get things going offensively almost immediately. Georgia had some answers early, but the Tigers offense kept things rolling throughout the entire quarter. A Flau’jae Johnson three made it 20-10 for LSU’s first double-digit lead of the night. After that made shot, however, the Tigers offense went cold for the remainder of the quarter. They led 20-12 after one.
In the second quarter, LSU looked like they might run away with this one. A 7-2 run made it 27-14. However, Georgia fought their way back into it throughout the period. By the half, Jersey Wolfenbarger had 11 points for the Tigers, and their lead was seven at 37-30.
Into the third quarter, the margin stayed at a similar mark. LSU was able to work it back to double figures, but couldn’t stretch it much further than that. Near the end of the third, Georgia tried to make a run as Trinity Turner continued to stay hot. She had 18 after three, but Johnson nailed a half-court heave for LSU at the buzzer, extending the lead after the quarter to 58-45.
LSU was able to separate themselves in the fourth quarter and avoid Georgia having a chance at a comeback. Five Tigers would score in double digits, helping to make up for Aneesah Morrow missing this game with injury. The Tigers held on to win 79-63.
