After the 4-0 start to the season, the #2 LSU Tigers returned to Alex Box Stadium to take on the Huskies of Northern Illinois.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU gave up an early run on a wild pitch with runners at the corners to put the Huskies up 1-0 in the top of the first. However, the Tigers would settle in over the next few innings, scoring five unanswered runs on a two-run homer from Michael Braswell III and a two-run shot a few batters later from Paxton Kling that quickly made it 4-1 in the second.
Braswell brought in another LSU run in the bottom of the third after he hit a fly out to center field that was deep enough to score Hayden Travinski and give the Tigers a 5-1 advantage.
In the top of the fourth, Northern Illinois got back on the board with a solo home run from Mason Kelley that cut into the LSU lead, but as the Tigers offense has done time and time again, they responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half.
First, it was Tommy White launching his first home run of the season, this one a two-run shot to left. Three batters later, Josh Pearson hit his own two-run homer, this time to right field to give LSU a 9-2 lead after four innings of play.
Josh Pearson got his second home run of the day in the bottom of the seventh, this one going to dead center field to make it 10-2 LSU.
Micah Bucknam pitched the final two innings for the Tigers, retiring the Huskies in order in the ninth to seal the 10-2 victory and move LSU to 5-0 on the young season.
