The LSU Tigers defeated the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 13-10 on Saturday night inside Tiger Stadium. The win moves LSU to 7-4 on the season with one game to play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Western Kentucky began with the football and was able to put together an impressive first drive. They went nine plays and 56 yards before settling for an opening field goal from John Cannon and going up 3-0.
The rest of the first quarter was forgettable from the offenses. LSU, starting Michael Van Buren at quarterback with Garrett Nussmeier injured again, could not get anything going. The quarter ended with the same score.
Late in the second quarter, LSU finally broke through. They drove down and scored a touchdown when Van Buren connected with Trey’dez Green, giving LSU a 7-3 lead at the half.
The second half was more about the LSU defense than anything else. They were dominant, not allowing the WKU offense to sustain anything offensively.
The Tiger offense only settled for two field goals, as Damian Ramos connected on both of those to give LSU a 13-3 advantage.
With LSU in control and trying to run the clock out late, Harlem Berry fumbled, allowing Dylan Flowers to return it for a long touchdown, making it 13-10 and allowing the Hilltoppers to attempt an onside kick.
BIG NUMBER: 25
Per Wilson Alexander and Scott Rabalais, LSU has not gone an entire season without scoring 25 or more points against an FBS team since 1978. If they do not accomplish the feat against Oklahoma next week, that will be the case here in 2025.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: DJ Pickett
Pickett was all over the field for the LSU defense. He notched an interception, six tackles, and a sack. He helped hold an explosive Western Kentucky offense to just three points, with the other seven being scored by the WKU defense.
UP NEXT: LSU will play Oklahoma on the road to close out the season next Saturday at 2:30 PM. You can listen to the game on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
