Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers welcomed local elementary schools to the PMAC this afternoon for a matinee game with the Charleston Southern Bucs. The LSU offense dominated all game as the Tigers pulled away to a 117-44 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After Charleston Southern jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage, LSU settled in as Aneesah Morrow, Mikaylah Williams, and Flau’Jae Johnson led the charges with key plays to have a 9-5 lead at the first media timeout with 4:56 to go in the opening quarter.

At the end of the first quarter, LSU had a 24-9 lead over the Bucs as Williams led the Tigers with eight points on 3-4 shooting. Catherine Alben led CSU with seven.

Williams continued to connect from downtown, and Lafayette Christian Academy graduate Jada Richard took a 43-18 lead halfway through the second quarter, outscoring the Bucs 19-9 early in the quarter.

LSU went on a 13-4 run to end the half at a 56-22 lead as three Tigers were in double figures at the break. Williams led with 16 while Morrow had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Finally, Arkansas transfer Jersey Wolfenberger had 10.

Kim Mulkey’s team really ran away in the third quarter, going on a 24-2 run during the frame to have an 84-28 lead after three quarters of play. Johnson had 12 points in the quarter, but Williams continued to lead with 20.

In the fourth, the Tigers kept their foot on the gas as Williams and Morrow were both over 20 with 25 and 21 points respectively. Johnson was close behind with 18, and LSU shot 58% from the field in the contest.

Richard had a perfect shooting performance with 11 points on 4-4 shooting as the true freshman has had a nice start to her career in purple and gold. In the end, LSU captured the 117-44 victory over the Bucs of Charleston Southern.

BIG NUMBER: +43

LSU outrebounded Charleston Southern in the contest 66-23, including 25 offensive rebounds from the Tigers leading to 23 second-chance points. Morrow finished with 20 rebounds while Johnson added 10 to lead the way.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Aneesah Morrow

Morrow has taken over the spot that Angel Reese anchored for the last two seasons as the rebounding machine for Mulkey, scoring 21 points and bringing in 20 rebounds in the process.

UP NEXT: LSU will host Murray State on Friday evening. Tip-off inside the PMAC is set for 7:00 p.m.
