The LSU baseball team had an extended break after their third game against South Carolina was canceled due to weather concerns. Their next matchup was against the Tulane Green Wave. The Tigers went down early but rallied quickly as they defeated Tulane on Tuesday 11-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tulane got a couple of batters on base early as Brady Hebert was walked and Brennan Lambert reached first base on a fielding error. Simon Baumgardt with one out hit an RBI single into left field and help put the game’s first run on the board.
LSU responded and took their first lead at the top of the third. Gavin Dugas hit a single and Tre’ Morgan got hit by a pitch. Dylan Crews got on a base by a fielder’s choice but Dugas was caught out trying to make it to third base. Tommy White then hit an RBI double off the center field wall which allowed Morgan and Crews to get home.
The Green Wave would have a multi-run inning at the bottom of the frame as Brady Marget was walked and Baumgardt hit a two-run home run to make it 3-2 in favor of Tulane.
Jared Jones began the fourth inning with a double into right-center field and then scored off Brayden Jobert’s single toward left field to tie the game at three.
The Tigers reclaimed the lead at the top of the fifth as Morgan and Crews singled into left field with Morgan advancing to third base off a Green Wave fielding error by Gavin Schulz. White hit a sacrifice fly and Cade Beloso recorded a single so both could score again and make it a 5-3 ball game.
Dugas would help add an extra run in the sixth with an RBI single that allowed Jordan Thompson to score after he was hit by a pitch earlier in the batting order.
Jobert hit LSU’s first home run of the night in the seventh that also brought home Beloso who recorded his third hit of the game with a single into center field.
The Green Wave would score one more run as Jackson Linn hit an RBI single that allowed Baumgardt to score and cut their deficit to four.
LSU would add more runs to the board as Thompson hit a solo shot in the ninth that went over the scoreboard and Alex Milazzo would get walked and would go to second after Dugas was walked as well. Crews and Morgan would each hit a single to bring both runners home.
Tulane put up one more run but couldn’t make the comeback as the LSU Tigers would go on to defeat Green Wave 11-5 in their midweek matchup.
