After picking up the win in a delayed game on Thursday night, LSU returned to Alex Box Stadium for Game 2 of their regular season finale series with Ole Miss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU got the bats going early as Tommy White hit a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the first as the Tigers held an early 1-0 lead. In the second, Ashton Larson reached base and came around to score on a single from Alex Milazzo that doubled the LSU advantage to 2-0.
Luke Holman pitched strong scoreless baseball through the first few innings at Alex Box after weather moved the game up to Noon. In the fifth inning, LSU added two more runs on a groundout by Hayden Travinksi that scored Michael Braswell III before Josh Pearson singled in White to make it a 4-0 game.
In the sixth, Ole Miss finally got to Holman as Luke Hill hit a two-run homer to right field that split the LSU lead in half at 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Mac Bingham, Larson, and Braswell all walked to load the bases up with one out. However, the Rebels were able to get out of trouble and strand the base runners.
Griffin Herring came in for the final two innings of the contest and was able to shut Ole Miss down, leading the Tigers to the 4-2 win on Friday afternoon and clinching the series.
BIG NUMBER: 11
Even with the win, LSU had opportunities for more offense as 11 baserunners were stranded on the afternoon.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Luke Holman
In what could be his final appearance at Alex Box, Holman pitched 6.2 innings, giving up five hits. He also allowed two runs on the home run but struck out nine and worked around some jams from the Rebels to keep LSU in the lead.
