Three members of the LSU football team were honored for their standout performances in Death Valley Saturday Night.
Jayden Daniels, Harold Perkins Jr, and Mason Taylor were all named SEC Players of the Week by the conference yesterday.
With the 32-31 overtime win over the Tide, LSU is now 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the SEC. The Fightin’ Tigers will return to action this Saturday in chilly Fayetteville, Arkansas. Kickoff for that game is 11:00 a.m. and you can hear all the action on The Game.
Jayden Daniels was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 182 yards and two touchdowns to lead LSU to their first home win over Alabama since 2010. Daniels had a 25-yard TD on LSU’s first offensive play in overtime and then went for two when he found SEC Freshman of the Week Mason Taylor for the conversion and the win.
Daniels completed 22-32 passes in the contest with no interceptions while averaging 5.1 yards per carry on the ground against a Crimson Tide defense that was only allowing 94 rushing yards per game to their opposition.
Perkins, a true freshman from Cypress, Texas, had a career-high eight tackles including a sack and a team-high three quarterback hurries in the game. He also forced an Alabama punt in the third quarter with a third-down pass breakup.
Perkins’ sack came on a big 3rd-and-5 with the ball at the LSU six-yard line, which forced one of three Alabama field goals from inside the red zone. LSU’s defense held the Tide without a first-half touchdown for the first time this season as Alabama was held to their lowest first-half (6) and three-quarters (9) points totals.
Taylor, the SEC Freshman of the Week, caught the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime in the front corner of the endzone. Taylor finished the game with three receptions for 36 yards, including a touchdown that put the Tigers in the lead 24-21 with 1:47 left in the contest.
