The LSU Tigers softball team split a pair of games and was eliminated on Saturday in the Baton Rouge Regional.
Game One:
Facing elimination, LSU got off to a hot start against UConn. They loaded the bases immediately with no outs, and Tori Edwards drew an RBI walk to make it 1-0 right away. The Huskies worked out of the jam after that, and LSU scored just once despite having the bases loaded and no outs.
UConn would threaten several times but were never able to solve Sydney Berzon, who kept them off the scoreboard. The Tigers added two more runs in the second inning, but also failed to add on in innings three, four, and five.
Berzon’s pitching was enough, as she tossed a complete game gem, holding the Huskies scoreless. After Nebraska had defeated Southeastern earlier in the day, that meant LSU had to face the Lions in a second elimination game.
Game Two:
The Tigers squared off against Southeastern in their second elimination game of the day, trying to avenge a loss from day one of the regional. It got off to a good start, as the Tigers scored a run on a Julia Lassiter RBI single to make it 1-0.
Southeastern would answer and then some in the bottom half. Two runs scored on RBI walks and two runs scored on fielder’s choice outs as the Lions took a 4-1 lead after just an innings
The score remained 4-1 until LSU bounced back in the top of the fourth. Sierra Daniel delivered an RBI single, and the Tigers eventually scored three in the frame to tie the game 4-4 after four innings.
In the bottom half of the fifth, Southeastern would retake the lead. Two runs would come across, the big blow being an RBI double from Maddie Watson. That made it 6-4 Lions after five.
LSU would answer again, as Lassiter came through with an RBI double to score two. That tied the game once again, this time at six.
The Lions grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Brilee Ford RBI base hit. That made it 7-6, but the Tigers were able to answer in the seventh. Jadyn Laneaux drove in the tying run with a single to make it 7-7.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Lions rallied. Back-to-back hits put runners at the corners with no outs. Then, Shelby Morris delivered the game-winning hit as Southeastern upset LSU again.
