The coaching staff for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns is continuing to take shape, especially on the defensive side of the ball with head coach Billy Napier announced on Wednesday that Patrick Toney was hired on as the safeties coach.
“Today we made a great hire,” Napier said. “In Patrick Toney we have acquired another quality football coach and recruiter. He will be relentless in his approach with our players and on the recruiting trail. He and Karl (Scott) have a prior relationship, and that will help with our transition. The Ragin’ Cajuns got better today!”
For the last two seasons he coached the same position at UTSA, the defense ranked seventh in the FBS, allowing 287.8 yards per game. Much like Scott, Toney coached at Southeastern Louisiana from 2012-2014 before heading over to Sam Houston State in 2015
Toney’s hiring is pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
