Welcome everyone to another edition of #TriplePlay! I’ll be breaking down every conference series that the Cajuns have this season. So we’ll start things off with this past weekend’s series against Troy.
Turn One: Effective Bullpen Helps Cajuns Secure Series Win
Heading into the season, a lot of the talk was about the starting pitchers and how they’d be a big factor towards the Cajuns winning games as the season has progressed. But the big story coming out of the first conference series is this team’s bullpen. The bullpen combined for 10 shutout innings pitched, four hits, and 18 strikeouts on the weekend. But the MVP of the bullpen has to be Dylan Moore, who faced 9 batters and struck out eight of them. Moore has been a great closer ever since he donned a Cajuns uniform, but this weekend’s performance puts him on another level.
Turn Two: Quiet Bats Over Weekend
The bats for the Cajuns, which are usually effective, weren’t making a whole lot of noise in Alabama. Stefan Trosclair and Joe Robbins, who were in the midst of a lengthy hit streak, were kept in check both only getting one hit on the weekend. The Cajuns were really helped by Steven Sensley, who wasn’t a part of the previous weekend’s series against Sacred Heart due to a hamstring injury, returning to the lineup and going 5-of-12 with a pair of RBIs.
Turn Three: Solid Start to Conference, But Room For Improvement
The Ragin Cajuns got through the first weekend of conference play with two out of three against Troy, but there’s still some room for improvement. Thankfully, the errors weren’t this team’s undoing like it was during the midweek matchup against Tulane, so it’s a start. But the biggest part of the Cajuns that needs to be improved is the starting pitchers. Having to rely on your bullpen to win games doesn’t bode well, but these starting pitchers can bounce back with the experience they have.
