O’Cyrus Torrence keeps piling up preseason recognition.
The Ragin’ Cajuns sophomore offensive lineman has been selected to the 2020 Outland Trophy preseason watch list. Torrence is one of 21 guards in the country named to the list and one of just five players from the Sun Belt Conference to be honored.
The Outland Trophy, which is the third oldest major trophy in college football, recognizes the best interior lineman in college football.
Torrence is coming off a strong 2019 season in which he started 13 of the team’s 14 games, earning his first career start against Liberty. Torrence helped pave the way for UL’s high-powered rushing attack which ranked third in yards per carry (6.28), sixth in total rushing yards (3,604) and tied for third in rushing touchdowns (42) in 2019.
For his performance, Torrence was selected to the FWAA-Shaun Alexander Freshman All-America Team honors.
Torrence was also one of 18 players that earned preseason accolades over the weekend from Phil Steele. Torrence received All-Sun Belt Conference third team honors from the annual publication.
UL is scheduled to open the 2020 season on Saturday, September 5, when it welcomes in-state foe McNeese State to Cajun Field.
