The United States walked into their third and final group stage match with one goal in mind: win and you’re in. Christian Pulisic took that goal head on, scoring in the 38th minute to put the US ahead 1-0 and that score would hold as the Stars and Stripes advanced to the knockout stage.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The US was getting chances in the box throughout the first match, but they finally struck through in the 38th minute when Tim Weah sent a cross into the box for Christian Pulisic to put in the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Iran had multiple chances to level the score and end the US’s run at the knockout stage, but the Stars and Stripes hung on to win 1-0.

WE'RE NOT GOING HOME.

WE'RE MOVING ON!!!!!!!

BIG NUMBER: 5-0

The US had five corner kicks during the match, which helped open the box for their goal opportunity. Defensively, they kept Iran off the corners in the match.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Christian Pulisic

Dubbed a “Founding Father”, Pulisic pushed the US through with his goal in the 38th minute. He has been the highlight of the offense during the group stage along with Tim Weah and they led the States to the knockout round.

UP NEXT: The US will take on the Netherlands this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. CT. You can catch it all on Telemundo Lafayette and Lake Charles.
