It was an unpredictable start to the second half of the high school football season in the Acadiana area.
St. Thomas More’s loss to Westgate defined the week’s unpredictability.
STM could not bounce back from their loss against Catholic -B.R. as Westgate pulled off the Friday night upset. This is the first win over STM in 11 meetings for the Westgate Tigers. It was another late field goal that downed the Cougars. The Tigers kicked a late fourth quarter field goal for the 24-21 win.
The Lafayette High Mighty Lions began the season 3-0, but have now dropped two of their last three games. After a 11-10 win last week over Sulphur, Lafayette High lost their road matchup 42-11 to New Iberia.
It was a bounce back week for the Southside Sharks, though. They lost by 14 points to Barbe for their first loss and 50 points against Acadiana last week, but they avoided their third straight loss of the season by defeating Sulphur 38-35. The Sharks are now 4-2 on the year.
Carencro keeps piling on the points. After putting up 71 and 58 points in their latest wins, the Golden Bears put up 31 points for their 31-27 road win over Teurlings Catholic. Carencro is now 6-1 on the season and they have averaged 53.3 points in their last three games.
The Erath Bobcats defeated the Kaplan Pirates 20-12 in the Vermilion Parish Game of the Week. Erath improves to 4-3 on the year, while Kaplan falls to 2-4 after their fourth straight loss.
