Friday night lights turned into Thursday night lights as week eight in the high school football season began earlier than normal.
Due to weather concerns, high school football games in the Acadiana area were moved to Thursday night.
Carencro’s defense is starting to match their offensive play. The Golden Bears held Abbeville to six points in their 41-6 win over the Wildcats. Carencro dropped their season opener, but they have won seven consecutive games since then.
The Vermilion Parish Game of the Week saw Centerville and Vermilion Catholic go head-to-head. Vermilion Catholic didn’t keep this one close as they beat Centerville 49-13. The Vermilion Catholic Eagles increased their winning streak to six and now sit at 7-1 this season.
The Southside Sharks separated themselves from the Lafayette High Mighty Lions on Thursday with a dominant performance. The Sharks now have a 5-3 overall record after defeating the Mighty Lions 63-35. Lafayette High dropped to 4-4 on the year and they are now on a three-game losing streak.
St. Thomas More was technically the away team for their game at Cougar Stadium this week, which was initially at Northside. The Cougars shutout the Northside Vikings 41-0 to improve to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in District 5-4A. After allowing 52 points to Catholic- Baton Rouge and 24 to Westgate, STM has allowed just 13 points in their last two wins. Next up for STM is their homecoming game against the Carencro Golden Bears.
