Week Four High School Football Roundup

Posted by Louis Prejean on September 27, 2019 in Blogs, Featured, Football Night In Acadiana, High School Sports, Latest News

There were many highs and lows in the fourth week of high school football in the Acadiana area.

Lafayette High and Southside suffered their first losses of the season, while St. Thomas More and Carencro took care of business in a big way on Friday night. Not to mention, the Vermilion Parish Game of the Week delivered a close final result.

The STM Cougars remained undefeated after beating Neville 35-6. The Cougars started slow with two turnovers in the first quarter but their defense got the job done by keeping Neville’s offense out of the endzone. STM improves to 4-0, while Neville suffered their first loss of the season.

Two teams other teams that could not hold onto their perfect record were the Lafayette High Mighty Lions and the Southside Sharks.

The Mighty Lions started 3-0, but the winning streak came to an end with a 41-33 loss to the Comeaux Spartans.

Southside was coming off a dramatic 31-28 win over Franklin last Friday. But the late-game magic wore off against Barbe. The Buccaneers handed the Sharks their first loss 41-27.

The Vermilion Parish Game of the Week was a battle between Vermilion Catholic and the Kaplan Pirates. Vermilion Catholic edged out the 25-20 road win over Kaplan.

The Carencro Golden Bears stole the show on Friday after their 71-point performance against Washington-Marion. They ran away with their Friday night win with a final score of 71-22. Carencro’s 71 points is the third-highest single game point total in program history.

Other Scores Around the Area:

Abbeville beat Beau Chene 35-25.

Lafayette Christian Academy got it done on both sides of the ball with their 44-7 win over St. Helena College and Career Academy.

Teurlings Catholic fell to Notre Dame 42-31.

Catholic High-Baton Rouge controlled their week four game against Edna Karr, winning 47-12.

The Rayne Wolves got the 16-6 road win over the Berwick Panthers.
