Days after the announcement that the NCAA handed a notice of allegations to LSU, the university announced on Saturday afternoon that they would be parting ways with head coach Will Wade.
Wade is being fired with cause in accordance with his contract that was modified shortly after Athletic Director Scott Woodward was hired. In the contract, there was a clause that mentioned that if there were level one or two allegations, he would be fired with cause.
“The Notice contains serious allegations, including multiple charges alleging Coach Wade’s personal involvement in—or awareness of—Level I misconduct.” LSU president William F. Tate IV and Woodward stated in a letter that was released by the university. “After receiving the Notice earlier this week, we took several days to fully evaluate it and engage in deliberate and thoughtful discussions about our next steps. We can no longer subject our University, Department of Athletics, and—most importantly—our student-athletes, to this taxing and already-lengthy process without taking action.”
According to the notice of allegations, Wade was cited for five Level I violations. The football program was also a part of the lengthy investigation and was cited for an additional three Level I violations.
Wade finishes his tenure at LSU with a 105-51 record.
Associate head coach Bill Armstrong was also terminated and Kevin Nickelberry will take over the program for the rest of the season in an interim role while the university begins a nationwide search for the next head coach.
