Williamson reaches historic milestone in loss to Mavericks

On Friday, the New Orleans Pelicans took a 111-103 loss from the Dallas Mavericks. During the match, Zion Williamson became the third-fastest NBA player to surpass 5,000 career points.

Williamson scored a team-high 29 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Trey Murphy III contributed 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Kyrie Irving scored a game-high 35 points for the Mavericks on 50-percent shooting from the field. PJ Washington registered 24 points and seven rebounds. The Mavericks went 16-for-44 in three point attempts, while the Pelicans went 8-for-27 from beyond the arc.

With Dallas leading 103-99 and less than three minutes left in regulation, Naji Marshall and Irving both made key three-point shots. Meanwhile, the Pelicans went 0-for-3 from deep range in the game’s final minutes.

New Orleans now holds a 13-43 season record. They are 1-9 in their last 10 games.
