Welcome everyone to another edition of #3OT!
1st OT: Cajuns Outshot by Jags
The Cajuns poor shooting on the road continued on Saturday with the Cajuns shooting 37 percent from the field and an abysmal 13 percent from the arc. The Cajuns did improve shooting in the second half, but so did the Jags, especially from the land of three, making six-of-eight in the second half. The Cajuns could not get it going shooting and were lucky to be in the lead heading into the half.
2nd OT: Cajuns Bench Not A Factor
The Cajuns bench, which I’ve lauded in the past as being incredibly deep and a big factor of winning games, was virtually nonexistent on Saturday with only 12 points coming off the bench. Players like Kasey Shepherd and Hayward Register, who are usually a big part of the Cajuns offense had two points each. If the team is relying on their big star Shawn Long to win games for them, maybe it’s time to change that before the tournament.
3rd OT: Protect the House
The Cajuns are finally heading back home after losing three out the last four games on the road. These next two games are crucial to win to keep their single-bye. With the loss tonight, the Cajuns are two games behind UL Monroe, so it’s still feasible (hard to see happening, but feasible) to get back into second place before the tournament. It’s definitely possible for the Cajuns to win with a single-bye, but the road is going to be a hell of a lot harder because you could be facing off against UALR before the finals. And if you want to make it to the NCAA tournament, you’re better off facing them in the finals.
