Welcome everyone to the latest edition of #3OT where I break down what went right and what went wrong for the LSU Tigers. In this edition, we look at LSU’s 92-87 loss to Kentucky.
1st OT: Blakeney’s Big Night
When it comes to LSU basketball this season, Antonio Blakeney is definitely the MVP of this team and his performance on Tuesday night against Kentucky was a prime example of this. The sophomore put up great numbers on the night with 31 points, a rebound, five assists, and one steal on the night. If only the rest of the team could have a decent performance offensively.
2nd OT: Better Than Expected Defense
LSU’s defense isn’t known for being fantastic, but on Tuesday night their defense was fantastic in some senses. They had 23 points off of Kentucky’s 14 turnovers and shut down the Wildcats bench. However, they weren’t able to hold off the starting five where four of them ended up with at least 14 points. This is how you lose games, bottom line.
3rd OT: Strong Finish Doesn’t Make Loss Easier to Handle
While the Tigers finished strong, they still lost. Is it nice that the Tigers actually made it competitive for a change? Yes, but losing a tenth straight game is frustrating just the same. It was a good sign that this team actually showed some fight against one of their toughest opponents, but they need to show that in other games and wins could be happening soon.
