Welcome everyone to the latest edition of #3OT where I break down what went right and what went wrong for LSU! In this edition we look at their demoralizing loss to Texas A&M.
1st OT: Lack of Ball Control
The LSU Tigers were dominated on Wednesday night largely because of their inability to hold onto the ball. Texas A&M did have slightly more turnovers, but they were able to do more off of LSU’s than the other way around. The Aggies were able to get 21 points off of those turnovers and that’s a big reason why LSU came away with yet another loss in SEC play. That and the Tigers only put up 12 points off of 15 turnovers. It sounds like a broken record at this point, but LSU can’t capitalize on those mistakes.
2nd OT: Defensive Effor Nearly Nonexistent
The defense for LSU just wasn’t there as it seemed that whatever Texas A&M threw up in the air was going in, especially in the second half. In the final twenty minutes alone, the Aggies shot for 69 percent from the field and 4-for-8 from three point range. It really shows how important a player like Craig Victor was when it comes to their defensive ability. If LSU wants to get wins on the board that aspect of their game will need to improve and quick.
3rd OT: Mirror Image of SEC Tournament Loss
The end of LSU’s 2016 season came at the hands of Texas A&M and it was a beatdown that would have cost most coaches their jobs. It’s so bad, I’ve tried to block out that performance they put together that soured everyone on this program’s future. The 2015-16 season for LSU hoops may have been the last chance to revive the program to its former glory. Wednesday night showed the last breaths of head coach Johnny Jones career at LSU as it looked like the same game from last March. The only difference was the date it took place and the Aggies dominated throughout with a wire-to-wire performance with LSU only being able to get the lead down to five points in the first half before getting run out of Reed Arena. Just a disappointing night to be a fan of LSU basketball.
