Welcome everyone to another edition of #4Downs!
1st Down: Return of the Haack
After rallying the Cajuns to victory, Brooks Haack got things started for the Cajuns on offense. And Haack came to play, going 18-25 for 162 yards and a score. Nixon, on the other hand, only played one series and went o-2 and threw an interception on third down. Things are starting to look up for Haack and odds are that he will be the guy moving forward. So much for a “two QB system”.
2nd Down: Special Performance by Special Teams
If there’s one thing to take away from this game, it’s that the special teams may be the best part of this Cajuns team. With freshman kicker Stevie Artigue going three-of-four and Montrel Carter showing off his hops blocking a punt in the endzone for the score, the special teams put together one hell of a performance. But I can’t talk about special teams today without bringing up Gary Haynes who had a huge punt return late to give the Cajuns ideal field position that led to Artigue kicking what would be the game winner.
3rd Down: Tovell continues to dominate
Dominique Tovell continued to dominate this week. The senior linebacker had seven solo tackles, two sacks, and two tackles for loss. Tovell has been the shining light on a very poor defense and this week was no different.
4th Down: Defensive Struggles Still Evident
Speaking of the Cajuns defense, their play on Saturday afternoon was very one-dimensional. The Cajuns excelled at stopping the run, but were shredded by Nick Arbuckle and his offensive weapons. If there’s one thing that’s going to hurt the Cajuns, it’s allowing the deep ball and big plays.
