Saints Snag a Pair of Buckeyes In Second Round

Posted by clintdomingue on April 30, 2016 in Latest News

2nd Round Draft Picks

The New Orleans Saints made the second round an interesting one for the fans on Friday night, picking a pair of Ohio State Buckeyes in the second round of the draft.

The Saints first picked up wide receiver Michael Thomas with the 47th overall pick. The 6’3″ 212 pound wide receiver is the nephew of former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, who caused problems for the Saints over the years while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thomas was the leading receiver for the Buckeyes during the 2014 national championship season with 799 yards off of 54 catches and nine TDs. He nearly duplicated it last season, racking up 781 yards on 56 catches and nine scores.

Fans should be interested in what he can do on the field. To see a more detailed report on the new Saint, click here.

But the Saints weren’t done in the second round. The New England Patriots traded their second round pick (61 overall) to the Saints in exchange for a third and fourth round pick in this year’s draft. The Saints drafted safety Vonn Bell with that pick.

The 5’11” 199 pound defensive player was a top 30 recruit and racked up 92 tackles, two for loss, six picks, and six pass breakups in the 2014 national championship season. His stats dropped in his final year as a Buckeye with 65 tackles, two picks, and nine pass breakups.

Bell being drafted could be an interesting choice based off of what has been seen from him on the field under Urban Meyer. To see a more detailed report on him, click here.
