LSU Overpowered by Ole Miss In Rubber Match

Posted by clintdomingue on April 30, 2016 in Latest News

The LSU Tigers were simply overpowered on Saturday afternoon, with three home runs coming off of the bats of the Ole Miss Rebels (33-12, 12-9 SEC). This was what caused LSU to drop the rubber match 8-2.

J.B. Woodman got the Rebels on the board quickly with a two run shot to center field in the top of the first to take an early lead. On the very next at-bat, Colby Bortles blasted one as well, this one over the right field wall to make it 3-0 at the end of one inning of play.

After a rain delay in the bottom of the second inning, the Rebels resumed play with Cameron Dishon hitting a double down the left field line that allowed Golsan to come across. Bortles got another run across in the bottom of the third with a double to left field.

Woodman struck again in the bottom of the fifth with a two run shot to center field to make it 7-0 after five innings of play.

Perdzock put the nail in the coffin in the bottom of the seventh with a sac fly to center field that allowed Bortles to scamper home.

LSU tried to get a rally going in the top of the eighth, but were only able to get two runs off a single from Bryce Jordan and a run off of a fielder’s choice by Antoine Duplantis, but it was too little too late on Saturday afternoon.

John Valek dropped to 6-2 on the year allowing four runs off of four hits and struck out only one batter in one and a third innings of work.

LSU (28-16, 11-10 SEC) will not have any midweek matchups this week and will be returning to the friendly confines of Alex Box Stadium to take on Arkansas (25-16, 6-12 SEC) with first pitch on Friday set for 7 pm.
