Meet the Saints Undrafted Free Agents

Posted by clintdomingue on May 2, 2016 in Latest News

The New Orleans Saints worked overtime getting several undrafted free agents signed. Below is the list of players along with a brief description on the player. As we get closer to training camp, we’ll look further into these guys and their chances in making the final 55-man roster.

Ryker Matthews, OT, BYU

The 6’5″ 316 pound senior from BYU has a lot to offer the Saints as a offensive tackle. But he isn’t too quick off the snap.

Tommylee Lewis, WR, Northern Illinois

His small frame may not be threatening, but his speed is something else according to scouting reports

DJ Pettway, DL, Alabama

Lacks the arm length that many scouts like in a defensive end, but makes up for it with good speed.

Dillon Lee, LB, Alabama

Another Alabama player to the Saints. Interested to see what he can do in training camp.

Trae Elston, DB, Ole Miss

A four year starter with the Rebels, he is a pretty good player who has had at least 60 tackles all four years at Ole Miss. Small size, but has a lot speed.

Mitchell Loewen, DL, Arkansas

Played a bit of tight end with the Razorbacks before jumping  to the D-Line his junior year.

Landon Turner, G, North Carolina

The Saints picked up a much needed guard who was a first-team AP All American in 2015.  Definite player to watch.

Avery Young, OL, Auburn

Another hoss signed as an undrafted free agent. The former Tiger has been injury prone in the past so that’s a potential red flag.

Ken Crawley. DB, Colorado

Solid height as a defensive back and has consistent tackle production. But has gotten flagged for pass interference quite a bit over the last couple of seasons.

Jared Dangerfield, WR, Western Kentucky

Big and physical wideout, but not too athletic.

De’Vante Harris, CB, Texas A&M

Solid special teams player along with being able to make a play on the ball.

Marcus Henry, C, Boise State

A physical center, but has limited range as a blocker.

Jordan Williams, WR, Ball State

Traditional look of a wide receiver and is committed to learning film. Doesn’t hurt that you’re from Ball State which also produced current Saints wideout Willie Snead.

Sione Houma, FB, Michigan

He isn’t the best fullback according to rankings and that’s all I’m seeing on the former Wolverine. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Jeff Schoettmer, LB, North Carolina

Another Tar Heel headed to the Crescent City, the former walk-on turned into one of the best players on the team.

Joseph Cheek, OL, Texas A&M

An athletic guard who is well conditioned. The guy is built like a tackle, but has a narrow base.

Jack Allen, C, Michigan State

Compact build and can turn on defenders quickly thanks to some background in wrestling in high school.

Dominique Tovell, LB, UL Lafayette

Everybody down here knows who he is. I am interested to see how he’ll look with the Saints.

Michael Caputo, S, Wisconsin

Three-year starter with some experience under new LSU Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda.
