LSU Falls to Coastal Carolina 11-8

Posted by clintdomingue on June 12, 2016 in Latest News

The Power of the Rally Possum just wasn’t enough on Saturday night as the Tigers rally fell short against Coastal Carolina by the score of 11-8.

G.K. Young got the Chanticleers on the board in the top of the second with a solo shot to left field. But Greg Deichmann responded with yet another monster blast in the bottom of the fourth that would score three runs and give the Tigers the lead.

In the top of the fifth, Coastal Carolina made it a one-run deficit with Billy Cooke grounding out to second base to score Seth Lancaster. But the Tigers got the lead back to two runs in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from Antoine Duplantis.

But the Chanticleers got the lead back in the top of the sixth with a four run sixth highlighted by an RBI single from Lancaster. They would score three more runs in the top of the seventh with back-to-back homers from Connor Owings and Zach Remillard.

LSU tried to chop away at the lead in the bottom half of the seventh with an RBI single from Dupalntis, but the deficit became larger in the top of the eighth with an RBI single from Remillard.

Coastal Carolina would get one more run in the top of the ninth off a fielder choice to make it 11-5. The Tigers would make the most of their three outs, getting three runs across, but it just wasn’t enough.

Alex Lange dropped to 8-4 on the year, allowing six runs off of five hits, walked two, and struck out eight in five innings of work.

The Tigers will be playing for their postseason lives on Sunday night with first pitch scheduled for 8 pm.
