Paul Mainieri Staying With the Tigers

Mainieri

After a lot of speculation after numerous reports, Paul Mainieri is staying on as the head coach of the LSU Tigers.

Numerous reports on Thursday stated that Mainieri was being interviewed by the University of Texas to replace Augie Garrido, who stepped down as head coach of the Longhorns after a 25-32 record

“Our first 10 years here have been a remarkable experience: Mainieri said in a statement released on the Tigers website on Thursday afternoon, “I’m very grateful to all Tiger fans for their tremendous support. Preparation for the 2017 season starts right now, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone in Alex Box Stadium in February.”

Mainieri is coming off of a season where he led the Tigers to a fifth straight national seed in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. This was also the seventh time in nine seasons, joining Florida as the only teams to have achieved the feat.

“I’m extremely pleased that Paul Mainieri is the baseball coach at LSU,” LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva said. “He has established a consistent record of excellence in all facets of our program, and I’m confident that the Tigers will continue to contend for national championships during his tenure.”
