The Emergence of Michael Thomas

Posted by clintdomingue on July 31, 2016 in Featured, Latest News

Michael Thomas

Over the last few years, the New Orleans Saints have been able to get great wide receivers in the NFL Draft. And this season seems to no different a few days into training camp with the emergence of Michael Thomas.

The former Ohio State Buckeye had a tremendous career in college and seems to be transitioning well into the life of a pro football player. “This is my job.” Thomas said, “I have to do my job, take good notes follow the great veteran guys and add value to this team.”

During the second day of camp, Thomas showed what kind of potential he’d have on the team with an acrobatic one-handed catch that would make a certain wide receiver from New York blush, but that’s not the only thing he is working on during his first NFL camp. He is working on improving his ability to block the run. And according to head coach Sean Payton he is capable of being good at the position.

“I think he’s someone that certainly is capable of being a good blocker on the perimeter for our running game.” Payton said, “So far they understand who they’re blocking because it can change whether it’s a corner or a safety depending on the look they get.”

The Saints over the course of the last decade have become one of the more dangerous teams on the offensive side of the ball under Drew Brees. With the additions of Thomas, Coby Fleener, and recent acquisition Hakeem Nicks in the offseason alongside Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead, the Saints will be able to continue being a passing threat in 2016.
