Saints Come Up Short In Loss to Chiefs

The Saints tried to rally late, but the Chiefs were able to hold on after a sloppy game from the Saints throughout and extend their home game win streak to nine straight by the score of 27-21.

The Saints looked to be starting things off on the right foot with the defense forcing a punt from Kansas City and took it down the field for a touchdown after Drew Brees connected with Brandin Cooks to take the early 7-0 lead.

That lead wouldn’t last long as the Chiefs would respond on the very next drive with a pass to Spencer Ware that he would take to the house. The scoring continued for Kansas City only a few minutes later with Daniel Sorensen grabbing a tipped pass and taking it to the endzone to give them the lead late in the first quarter.

The Chiefs would get another touchdown on the board midway through the third quarter with Alex Smith connecting with Alex Smith who had an acrobatic catch near the endzone to make it 21-7.

The Saints would open up the second half with a lengthy drive that ended with a short pass from Brees to running back Mark Ingram that would make it a one-score game. The Chiefs would follow that up with a 39-yarder from Cairo Santos and make it a 10 point game.

The Saints looked to be out of it after a fumble by Ingram, but the defense was able to shut things down and give the Saints the ball back with five minutes left on the clock. The Saints would make the most of it and score off a nice pass to Brandon Coleman to get within a field goal.

A failed onside kick attempt ended up with the Chiefs connecting with a deep kick from Santos to make it a six point game with only 28 seconds remaining. The Saints would try to get that game winner, but ended up having the clock run out after Thomas was unable to get out of bounds around midfield.

The Saints (2-4) will return to the Superdome next Sunday and welcome the Seattle Seahawks (4-1) with kickoff set for noon.
