New Orleans Saints Offense Sluggish In Loss to Detroit Lions

After an offensive flurry last week against the Los Angeles Rams, the Saints looked lethargic on Sunday offensively and that led to the Detroit Lions winning their fourth straight by the score of 28-13.

Detroit got on the board first after forcing a three and out and marched down the field with a methodical drive that led to three points off of the foot of Matt Prater.

The Saints offense was forced to punt yet again and the Lions marched down the field with another methodical drive down the field that ended with Matthew Stafford connecting with Theo Riddick on a short pass to the endzone to make it 10-0 early in the second quarter.

The Saints getting their first points off the foot of Will Lutz that was partially blocked but still went through the uprights to cut away at the lead, but the Lions would respond with another field goal from Prater to get their double-digit lead back. The game of field goals continued as the half came to an end with another Lutz field goal to make it 13-6 at the half.

The second half would pick up where the first left off with another field goal from Prater to make it 16-6 after a long drive that took six minutes off the clock.. The Saints offense would continue to underperform with the first of three interceptions by Drew Brees and the first would lead to another field goal to put more of a gap between the Lions and the Saints.

The Saint would respond on the next drive with their lone touchdown on the afternoon with John Kuhn running it in from one yard out. However the Lions would fire back with a deep pass to Golden Tate to make it 25-13 after a failed two-point conversion. The final nail would come on the Lions next possession with another field goal from Prater to make him 5-for-5 on the day.

The Saints (5-7) will hit the road next week to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-5) with kickoff set for 3:25 pm,
