LSU Falls to South Carolina

It just seems like LSU basketball (9-12, 1-8 SEC) cannot even come close to winning games. The Pete Maravich Assembly Center was the site of another one-sided victory, this time it was the South Carolina Gamecocks (18-4, 8-1 SEC) in a wire-to-wire 88-63 victory.

It was all South Carolina right from the outset as LSU would go down 9-3 with 16:30 left in the first half. The lead for the Gamecocks would quickly rise up to 16 points at around the halfway mark and would head into the locker room at halftime with a 50-32 lead.

It seemed like the Tigers would start to make a push towards taking the lead early in the second half, but South Carolina would push themselves even further ahead with a 24 point left with 12:51 left in regulation. It would continue to be all South Carolina and come away with a win to complete the regular season sweep.

LSU will have a chance to avoid losing a 10th straight when they host Texas A&M (11-10, 3-6 SEC) with tipoff set for 8 pm.

By the Numbers:

22: Number of turnovers for LSU. This was a new season high for the Tigers and Skylar Mays and Jalyn Patterson combined for 12 of those turnovers.

31: Number of free throw attempts for South Carolina. The Tigers continue to have too many personal fouls and even Johnny Jones got teed up. It’s just another part of LSU that seems to be coming apart at the seams.

34: Going back to turnovers, South Carolina was able to capitalize on those 22 turnovers with 34 points.
