The final game of the Shriner’s College Classic for LSU (9-4) came up just short against Texas Tech (10-2) in the bottom of the 9th.
With two outs in the bottom of the 9th and the bases loaded and the game tied up, it seemed like free baseball was a possibility. However, Tanner Gardner would hit one directly to Hunter Newman and proceed to go off his foot and that was enough to get Cody Farhat across home plate to take down the Tigers 5-4.
LSU was down heading into the final inning after the Red Raiders took a 4-3 lead with three of those coming in the seventh. With two outs for the Tigers, Beau Jordan was able to tie things up off of a wild pitch.
Hunter Newman was credited with the loss, dropping to 0-1 on the season allowing one run off of three hits, walked two and struck out four and in two and a third innings of work.
LSU will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they take on San Diego (6-2) with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm.
