Saints Make Moves, Draft Edge Rusher In Day Two of Draft

It took almost two days, but the New Orleans Saints finally drafted an edge rusher.

That was one of the Saints four picks on Friday night as they went for some solid players in safety Marcus Williams, running back Alvin Kamara, linebacker Alvin Kamare, and defensive end Trey Hendrickson.

They wound up trading up to get the running back out of Tennessee. They traded up with the San Francisco 49ers for a 2018 2nd round pick and a 7th rounder in this year’s draft. In his two seasons with the Volunteers, Kamara put up 1,294 yards and 16 touchdowns. His use for this team could be as a third down back along with being a punt returner.

The safety out of Utah is added depth to a position already loaded with weapons having Kenny Vaccaro, Vonn Bell, and recently acquired Rafael Bush already on the roster. He may not make an immediate impact, but if Vaccaro isn’t part of the team after this season, expect him to be a starter alongside Bell.

While drafting a defensive end late in the third round may not be ideal for many members of the Who Dat Nation, Hendrickson’s numbers are impressive with 29.5 sacks in his four years at Florida Atlantic. However, many fans will consider it to be a big miss when several decent defensive ends were available at earlier picks.

The Saints will wrap up the draft with a 6th round pick on Saturday.
